Citizens in Italy are now being charged €2 to €4 more than before the coronavirus emergency as bars, restaurants and hairdressers add a ‘covid tax’ to the bill. Hairdressers and coffee shops are charging tax with every purchase as well. The taxes are for businesses that have been struggling during the lock down.
Places with outside seating are also getting more space so more people can go to the bars or restaurants. The city has suspended the collection of local taxes for the use of public space, in addition to creating the #RomaRiapre fund to help Rome’s shops and small businesses get back on their feet.
