INGREDIENTS

  • 10 large lemons (preferably organic)
  • 25.4 fl oz (750 ml) high-quality vodka or pure grain alcohol
  • 2.5 cups (500g) granulated sugar
  • 2 cups (500 ml) filter water
  • Optional Unique Twist Ingredients: herbs (basil, rosemary), flowers (lavender, elderflower), or spices (chili, ginger)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Wash and dry the lemons thoroughly, as their zest will be used to infuse the Limoncello with flavor. Ensure there is no wax or residue on the lemons.

  2. Using a vegetable peeler or a microplane grater, carefully remove the yellow zest from the lemons, avoiding the bitter white pith. Place the zest in a clean glass container or a large glass jar.

  3. Pour the vodka or pure grain alcohol over the lemon zest, making sure it is fully submerged. Seal the container tightly and place it in a cool, dark place for at least 10 days, gently shaking it every day to enhance the infusion process.

  4. After the infusion period, prepare a simple syrup by combining the sugar and water in a saucepan. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat and let it cool to room temperature.

  5. Once the syrup is cooled, strain the infused alcohol to remove the lemon zest. Discard the zest and pour the infused alcohol into a clean container.

  6. Gradually add the simple syrup to the infused alcohol, stirring well after each addition. Taste along the way to achieve your desired level of sweetness. Note: You may not need to use the entire syrup; adjust it to your preference.

  7. If desired, divide the Limoncello base into separate containers to experiment with unique twists. Add herbs, flowers, or spices of your choice to each container, ensuring they are immersed in the liquid.

  8. Seal the containers tightly and return them to the cool, dark place for an additional 1 to 2 weeks. Shake gently every few days to enhance the infusion process.

  9. After the additional infusion period, taste your Limoncello with unique twists to determine the desired flavor intensity. Strain out the added ingredients and pour the Limoncello into bottles for storage.

  10. Store the Limoncello in the freezer or refrigerator to keep it chilled. It will remain delicious for several months, but it’s best enjoyed within a year
