The Winner
Yup. The Mob Wife aesthetic took over my poll in an instant. But let’s talk about what makes this aesthetic so powerful. Personally, when I heard that this particular style was named “Mob Wife,” I was a little confused. I feel as though this name is taking away from the fashion staples that Italian women founded and made iconic, and turning it into another stereotype that Italians face. But with further thinking, despite the name being slightly stereotypical I feel as though this is giving back the power to Italian women as we are taking a negative connotation, and making it our own. Behind every Italian woman who appreciates this aesthetic is a strong woman. She is bold, she is powerful, and her persona showcases that. 70% of you voters must feel this way as well.
On The Flip Side
However, don’t let the media fool you into thinking that Tomato Girls aren’t as strong and powerful as the Mob Wife girlies. These women are the epitome of grace. Both aesthetics emphasize the femininity of Italian women, with bold reds, the classic jewelry, and more. What I personally love, alongside 30% of my voters, is that this aesthetic can be a little more personalized based off the individual. This look can be pulled off in so many different ways: bright blues as a substitute for reds, head scarfs, little makeup, a natural full face, you name it, it can be whatever the creator wants!
Overall
Overall, I love that the internet is giving acknowledgment to all the Italian women today. It is important that as Italian women we build each other up and appreciate all the different types of ways that the women of our culture are representing us.
