Italian students and teachers alike will have to adjust to a new ban prohibiting smartphones in classrooms soon. Minister of Education Giuseppe Valditara has put this ban into effect based upon research and data that phones and tablets have negatively affected the overall environment of the classroom, leading to increased tension. There has also been a higher incidence of aggression towards teachers and staff from students. The debate to enforce this ban has been ongoing for 20 years, when the ban was first recommended by minister Fioroni.
The ban includes eliminating smartphones and tablets, even for teaching purposes and will begin from the youngest levels possible, kindergarten through junior high. This ban is not farfetched considering UNESCO recently made a global recommendation for smartphones to be removed from schools worldwide. Their research and conclusive reasoning was due to the fact that the devices are a distraction and therefore reduce learning capabilities for students.

Perfect, that needs to happen here in the USA.
No student needs a phone in a classroom setting.
