Cabrini Film of Courage and Bravery Ignites Italian Pride

Based upon the life of Mother Cabrini, the film Cabrini, will touch the heartstrings of viewers everywhere. However, Italian Americans will especially be moved by the sacrifices and bravery of Italian immigrant Francesca Cabrini, whom the film is about. Played by actress Cristiana Dell’ Anna, an Italian actress best known recently for her role in Gomorrah, Mother Cabrini is supported by a star studded cast of well know American an Italian actors including John Lithgow and Romana Maggiora Vergano. Inspirational performances in the film include Virginia Bocelli, Andrea Bocelli’s 11 year old daughter.

Commissioned by Pope Leo XIII in 1889 to work among the Italian immigrant families in New York City, Mother Cabrini’s goal was to renew their faith and assist them through their hardship in the new world. Originally from Sant’ Angelo Lodigiano, Italy, the New York slums she encountered were riddled with disease, crime and poverty. She devises a relentless plan to secure housing and healthcare from the Mayor for society’s most needy. Audiences will be full of empathy and admiration for Mother Cabrini as she is determined in her mission, struggling through language barriers and personal health issues. Ultimately her steadfastness and entrepreneurial mindset create an unprecedented empire that includes 67 schools, hospitals and orphanages.

Released in theaters March 8th, it is not coincidentally International Women’s Day, the theme of which is investing in women and accelerating progress. Not only was Mother Cabrini’s contributions in both American and Italian history unrivaled, but also for the Catholic church. She was granted American citizenship in 1909, eventually passing away in Chicago in 1917. Pope Pius XIII canonized Mother Cabrini in 1946, making her the first American citizen to be named a saint.

  1. I saw the movie “Cabrini” last night and am still shedding tears—it is so moving and inspirational. You owe it to your Italian immigrant ancestors to watch—I am so happy I did.

    1. My wife and I saw this movie and I was astounded @ the way us Italians were treated back then, not being able to go to the local hospital just blew my mind!😕

    2. I worked on Cabrini in Buffalo N.Y. As a 1st props assistant and 2nd unit prop master it was an incredible set to work on.
