With the recent trend of dressing similar to a mob wive with big furs, bold eye make-up and the highest high heels, Bonnie Xo interviewed three of the reality TV stars from the show ‘Mob Wives’ on her podcast ‘Dumb Blonde.’ Renee Graziano, Karen Gravano, and RaMona Rizzo. I listened to all three of the podcasts so you don’t have to.
Renee Graziano: Family Business
I started with Renee’s interviewed first on the podcast, and here’s is hands down the saddest. I’m not going to deep dive into specific of the who her father or ex-husband was and I am not taking a stance of any of these women’s backgrounds. Renee had a very challenging upbringing. From abuse starting at the age of nearly thirteen-years-old by men she was dating, to a crippling drug addiction that almost took her life, her story was a hard listen. For those who don’t know, Renee struggled deeply while filming the show and her father was even arrested and imprisoned while they were filming. Renee’s personal issues that she still struggles with today, were all filmed and ripped about by viewers and the media. Bunnie and Renee truly broke down how much Renee struggled with her personal identity after her father died since her whole life she presented herself as an untouchable, mobster’s daughter. Finding her true identity is something she’s currently focusing on alongside her businesses. For the full podcast check out ‘Dumb Blonde’ podcast.
Karen Gravano: Calm in Chaos
Karen Gravano’s interview, in my opinion, just felt like the same story that she has been sharing about her life for years. I know a lot of people don’t like Karen for a multitude of reasons, but the podcast she did sounded genuine and sincere with her words. But the interesting thing that Karen does that the other girls emphasized that they couldn’t live without was therapy. Bunnie asked Karen if she sees a therapist to heal from her trauma and from the things she witnessed growing up and Karen said no. It’s pretty thought provoking because Karen’s father was the only father of the three that was open and honest with his daughter so Karen was never left guessing. This could be the reason she doesn’t feel she needs professional help because she was able to digest ‘the life’ a lot easier than the other girls.
RaMona Rizzo: Mafia Princess
RoMona Rizzo’s interview on the podcast was interesting because I did not know much about her personal life and story. RoMona opened about a lot like how her form of therapy from dealing with her grandfather going away was through journaling and writing letters as a little girl. RoMona’s ‘trauma’ started, too, at a very young age. She even went on to talk about her struggle with her family being so old school, they were incredibly unsupportive of her marriage to an Arabic man, how the divorce drained her both emotionally and financially, and how she would have preferred living in her ‘dream home’ in Atlanta, rather than be on the show but it was her only source of income. I learned a lot about her, and I like her! She seems to be one of the women Italian women can relate to the most coming from a strict Italian household. Her life wasn’t always about the mob. RoMona had to work, she wasn’t really allowed to go out, and her father chased her boyfriend with a hammer around the mall and she found out through a friend not even from him. Sounds about right LOL!
