An explosion at a hydroelectric plant in northern Italy has claimed at least three lives and left five people injured, with four people still missing. The blast occurred during maintenance work at Enel’s Bergi plant , causing part of th nine-story underground structure to collapse and starting a fire that led to flooding up to 60 meters deep. Smoke could be rising form the site, and the nearby town’s mayor described the incident as a historic tragedy, as the plant had been operating without such incidents for decades. Italy’s prime minister expressed solidarity with the victims. Divers are assisting in the search for the missing ividuals, but caution is being exercised due to the risk of further collapse. The plant, situated at Suviana Lake, remains undamaged according to Enel Green Power, whose CEO has visited the site to offer condolences.
