Marinated Mozzarella Balls At Home

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 pound (about 450g) fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini)
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Zest of 1 lemon (optional)
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

DIRECTIONS

  1. Prepare the Mozzarella Balls: Drain the fresh mozzarella balls if they’re packed in water, then pat them dry with paper towels. If the mozzarella balls are too large, you can cut them in half for better marination.

  2. Make the Marinade: In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, minced garlic, dried oregano, dried basil, red pepper flakes, salt, black pepper, and lemon zest (if using). Adjust the seasoning according to your taste preferences.

  3. Marinate the Mozzarella Balls: Place the mozzarella balls in a shallow dish or a sealable container. Pour the marinade over the mozzarella balls, ensuring they are evenly coated. If you’re using halved mozzarella balls, gently toss them in the marinade to coat them thoroughly.

  4. Refrigerate and Let Marinate: Cover the dish or container with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or ideally overnight, to allow the flavors to meld and the mozzarella to absorb the marinade.

  5. Serve: Before serving, bring the marinated mozzarella balls to room temperature for the best flavor. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired. You can serve them on their own as appetizers, add them to salads, or use them as a topping for various dishes.

  6. Storage: Store any leftover marinated mozzarella balls in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days. The longer they marinate, the more flavorful they will become.

  1. There is an ingredient added in the video that is not in the recipe. It appears maybe diced sun dried tomatoes are added ? Can you clarify ?
    Thank you.
