Tiramisu brownies combine the rich, fudgy texture of brownies with the classic flavors of the beloved Italian dessert, tiramisu. These indulgent treats are perfect for anyone who loves both chocolate and coffee, bringing together the best of both worlds in one delicious dessert.
Ingredients
For the Brownie Layer:
1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter
1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup (30g) unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup (60g) all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
For the Tiramisu Layer:
8 oz (225g) mascarpone cheese, softened
1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
1 large egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup (60ml) strong brewed coffee or espresso, cooled
1 tablespoon coffee liqueur (optional)
1/2 cup (60g) all-purpose flour
For the Topping:
1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tablespoon powdered sugar
Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease a 9×9-inch (23×23 cm) baking pan or line it with parchment paper, leaving some overhang to lift the brownies out easily.
2. Prepare the Brownie Layer: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Once melted, remove from heat and stir in the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined. Add the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder to the butter mixture. Stir until just combined, being careful not to overmix. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
3. Prepare the Tiramisu Layer: In a medium bowl, beat the mascarpone cheese and sugar together until smooth and creamy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated. Stir in the cooled coffee or espresso and coffee liqueur (if using). Gradually fold in the flour until just combined.
4. Assemble the Brownies: Pour the tiramisu layer over the brownie layer in the baking pan, spreading it evenly. Using a butter knife or a toothpick, gently swirl the two layers together to create a marbled effect.
5. Bake the Brownies: Bake the brownies in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Remove the pan from the oven and allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan.
6. Add the Finishing Touches: Once the brownies are completely cool, dust the top with a mixture of unsweetened cocoa powder and powdered sugar. For a more traditional tiramisu touch, you can also sprinkle a bit of finely grated chocolate or espresso powder over the top.
7. Serve: Use the parchment paper overhang to lift the brownies out of the pan and onto a cutting board. Cut into squares and serve. These brownies are rich and decadent, so small pieces go a long way!
Tiramisu brownies are a decadent dessert that brings together the best of two beloved sweets. The combination of fudgy brownies and the creamy, coffee-infused tiramisu layer makes for an indulgent treat that’s perfect for special occasions or whenever you’re craving something truly special. Enjoy them with a cup of coffee or as a standalone dessert, and savor the delicious marriage of chocolate and coffee flavors!
