Italian American Group Throws Support Behind Andrew Cuomo for NYC Mayor

With the New York City mayoral election set to take place later this year, many are wondering who might challenge Eric Adams to become the head executive of the nation’s largest city. The current mayor has been facing calls to step down from his role after being investigated for and charged with bribery and fraud, potentially opening the door for a newcomer to run for the Democratic ticket.

Candidates for the Democratic primary include NYC Comptroller Brad Lander as well as assemblymen Michael Blake and Zohran Mamdani, but there is also one former New York legislator worth keeping an eye on: Former New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Although the former governor of Italian descent has yet to announce his candidacy for mayor, there has long been speculation that Cuomo might attempt a political comeback following allegations of sexual misconduct he faced several years ago that forced him to resign in disgrace. At the time, he was the longest-serving governor in the United States, and now one Italian American group is eager to see Cuomo re-enter the political arena.

The Italian American Democratic Leadership Council (IADLC) has issued a statement of support for Andrew Cuomo, urging him to enter the race for New York City Mayor. “Embedded in the values and traditions of our shared Italian American roots, Andrew Cuomo has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to public service and the welfare of all New Yorkers,” said Jim Rosapepe, Vice Chairman of the Italian American Democrats. “His leadership embodies the spirit of family that defines our shared heritage and perseverance that has long defined our community.”

The statement continued to note Cuomo’s commitment to diversity and support of the Italian American community at large. “He stood up for us when others attempted to denigrate and minimize our heritage, refusing to allow the Christopher Columbus statue to be torn down, and building the loving tribute to Mother Cabrini in Battery Park City. And after years of alleged anti-Italian discrimination at CUNY, appointed the first-ever Italian American CUNY board member. As Italian Americans, we take immense pride in our traditions and in the legacy of service passed down through generations. Andrew Cuomo shares this spirit and for these reasons we urge him to heed the public service calling once again.”

Some rumors suggest that Cuomo could announce his candidacy for mayor as soon as Sunday, but it will be interesting to see if any other groups voice their support for the former governor as the race begins to intensify.

  1. If Andrew wants to win. He should ask all NYKRs and Americans to go on Instagram and look for videos about Islam and Muslims. There are thousands of videos. Most are major crimes against humanity. The Palestinians are in Sweden trying to get the Swedes to leave their own Country. 250,000 young Christian girls raped by Muslim Gangs in Britain. Tens of thousands of Muslims in Italy. If you get all NYKRs to see how horrible Muslims treat women and children. And listen to what they are doing to America! I suspect most NYKRs will vote for Cuomo. Plus according to a post on Instagram. There are 800,000 illegal Muslim Voters in NY. Did not specify NYC or NYS. All of the real news is on Instagram!!
