Tommy DeVito will have at least one more year to enjoy his mom’s chicken cutlets within a stone’s throw from MetLife Stadium. That’s right, the 26-year-old quarterback and the New York Giants have agreed to a one-year contract extension worth $1.03 million, the minimum salary for a player with his level of experience.
Although there is no guaranteed money in the deal, it will allow the third-year signal caller to stay close to home on the team that took a chance on him as an undrafted free agent. That chance paid off in 2023 when DeVito’s number was called following injuries to two other quarterbacks. From there, the legend of Tommy Cutlets was born. The New Jersey native put together three consecutive wins in his brief time as the starting quarterback while collecting nearly 600 yards and 5 touchdowns in those contests, even earning NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors for his performance against the Green Bay Packers in Week 14.
However, his 2024 season performance left more to be desired. In two starts for the Giants this past season, DeVito completed 70% of his passes for just under 300 passing yards and 0 touchdowns. New York was unable to secure a win in either contest, losing by 20+ points against both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Baltimore Ravens.
Although Tommy DeVito is currently the only quarterback under contract for the New York Giants, that may change soon as rumors about the team’s interest in veteran QB and future hall-of-famer Aaron Rodgers continue to pick up steam. The Giants may also opt to add depth at the position through the upcoming NFL Draft, holding the No. 3 pick behind the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns. Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward represent two potential options for the G-Men depending on who those teams select, so Tommy Cutlets will likely find himself with plenty of competition for playing time by the end of the offseason.
