This past Saturday, May 19th, was a very unfortunate day in Venice. Severely high tides measuring more than 43.3 inches above sea level flooded the city.
These tides are said to occur approximately every 5 years. The harsh waters caused tourists to remove their shoes and virtually paddle through it wearing raincoats.
According to officials, 28 percent of the lagoon city has been flooded.
