A new public art project in Italy is extremely sentimental. The Piazza in Rome lights up each time a baby is born!
The art project is entitled, Ai nati oggi which means “for those born today”. It works because the lampposts are connected to the maternity ward at Rome’s Gemelli hospital! A staff member at the hospital simply presses a button each time a child is born and the streetlights are instantly brightened. This increased illumination lasts for about 30 seconds and then the lights slowly dim back to their normal luminosity.
This art project was created to bring art closer to the reality of life. It was created to fill those who walk through the area with feelings of serenity and calmness. This artwork has been installed in various other cities as well including Bergamo, Ghent, Istanbul, and Moscow.
