It is saddening to state that the water levels in Venice have not been this high in over 50 years. Mayor Luigi Brugnaro said on Twitter that “Venice is on its knees.’’
Officials have calculated hundreds of millions of euros in damage. The water reached 1.87 meters (6.14 feet) above average sea level this Tuesday. There has been one death due to the flood. The death occurred on the barrier island of Pellestrina. A man in his 70s was electrocuted when attempting to start a pump.
Send your prayers to Italy during this very difficult time.
