From pretzels to the French flag, there are some things that you may have never guessed originated in Italy!
1. Pretzels
Contrary to common belief, pretzels are not new food at all! The origins of pretzels date back to 610 when a Monk created them. According to The History of Science and Technology, pretzels are symbolic. The monk actually created the, to represent a child crossing their arms in prayer.

2. Jacuzzis
Jacuzzis were invented by Roy Jacuzzi and were first sold in 1968.

3. The violin
When many think of Italian instruments, the piano and accordion come to mind. However, Italians also invented the violin! It was invented by Andrea Amati during the late 16th century.

4. Ice-cream Cones
The next time you bite into a crisp ice-cream cone, think of Italians! Edible ice cream cones were actually invented by two Italian entrepreneurs, Antonio Valvona and Italo Marchioni.

5. Malls
Shopping malls actually date back to 100 AD! The first mall was Trajan’s Market was the first-ever “shopping mall” in Ancient Rome

6. The French Flag
Although Italians did not directly create the French flag they did influence it. In 1797, during Napoleon’s invasion of Italy, the tri-colored flag of Italy inspired the French flag.

7. The typewriter
The typewriter, an invention that truly changed history was invented by Pellegrino Turri in 1808!
