While there are a litany of reasons why Goodfellas is a cinematic masterpiece, one of the main reasons is because Martin Scorsese was clever enough to hire Nicholas Pileggi as the screenplay's co-writer. – As fans of the film will know, Pileggi wrote the novels Wiseguy: Life in a Mafia Family and Casino: Love and Honor in Las Vegas, which Goodfellas and Casino are based on. – Another man that knows his way around the gangster genre is Terence Winter, he won four Emmys for his work writing The Sopranos. Aside from this, Winter also wrote Boardwalk Empire and The Wolf of Wall Street. – Well, if you love the gangster genre, you're going to be very happy because Deadline are reporting that the two men are teaming up to work on a new drama series about the early days of the mafia in the US, more specifically, the First Family. – The show is reportedly “inspired by Pileggi’s in-depth chronology of organized crime in America — which is also the history of corruption in America — as seen through the eyes of the mafia’s First Family.” – In terms of recent work, Pileggi re-teamed with Scorsese to executive produce The Irishman and he also was an executive producer on Ridley Scott’s American Gangster. – I don’t know about you guys, but I’m fuckin’ stoked! Can’t wait until more news develops on this, and when it does I’ll be here to keep you all posted. 🤙🏼 • Article via ‘The Rewind.’ 📰
