This Colorful Island Has Been Named Italy’s Next Capital of Culture

The marvelous island of Procida, off the coast of Naples, has been named Italy’s Capital of Culture for 2022!

According to Lonely Planet reports, Procida is the first island to receive this title! 

When Procida applied to be named “Capital of Culture”, the island’s vision was entitled “la cultura non isola” which means “culture does not isolate”.

Although the island is small, it is overflowing with culture! Interestingly, out of all the contestants, Procida was actually the smallest to apply. However, the judges appreciate the island’s characteristics including. sustainability and nonseasonal tourism according to the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities. The judges explained that this vibrant island could serve as a model for other seaside towns that are seeking visitors.
