Gnocchi alla Romana (Semolina Gnocchi) Recipe

Gnocchi alla Romana is the ultimate comfort food!

Gnocchi alla Romana means “Gnocchi in the Roman manner”, and is very common in Italy! It is perfect on its own, but is also amazing with stews! This gnocchi has a crisp outside and a soft interior!




– Serves 4 – 

  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil To grease the sheet pan

For the Gnocchi:

  • 3 cups (750 ml) milk See Note 1
  • 1 1/2 tsp coarse salt See Note 2
  • 1/8 tsp freshly ground nutmeg
  • 2/3 cup (110 g) semolina flour
  • 1 large egg – lightly beaten
  • cup (85 g) grated parmesan cheese See Note 3


  • 1/4 cup (60 g) butter – melted
  • 1/2 cup (45 g) grated Parmesan cheese
