“The country of the year” is not based on country size or how happy the population is. The title is awarded to the country that has improved the most in one year.
With the current state of the world, it was challenging to choose a country of the year. However, Italy’s economy is improving faster than other European countries, including France and Germany.
Also, Italy has some of the highest vaccination rates in Europe. Currently, 85.3% of the population 12 and up have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccination.
The country has changed with Premier Mario Draghi, who was described by The Economist‘s journalists as competent and respected globally.
