Golf is not a sport for which Italy is typically associated. However, there are some fantastic golf courses across the country. In fact, Italy is one of the best places in the world for golf lovers. Each of the courses offers a different experience for golfing enthusiasts and a range of additional features, such as restaurants or accommodation at the course. Here are some of the best places to stay in Italy if you want golf to feature highly in your vacation itinerary.
Lake Como
Lake Como is a good choice because there is a range of golf courses to choose between in and around the area. One of the best is Golf Villa d’Este that was established in 1926 and is set with a stunning background of the sprawling hills of the Lake Montorfano nature reserve. While staying in Lake Como, you will have access to everything else the area offers.
Costa Smeralda
Close to Porto Cervo is the Il Pevero Golf Course and this is listed amongst the most beautiful courses in the world. It offers breath-taking views of the Emerald Coast and the Sea of Sardinia Island. Each of the eighteen holes in the course offers a different challenge and the Club House is a luxurious environment in which you will enjoy relaxing after a round of golf.
Florence
Florence is well-known for hosting some of the most prestigious golfing events in Italy. The top club in this area is Club Ugolino and the setting of the course has been described as paradise. The course is only 12 kilometers from the center of Florence, so it is just a short drive from the attractions of the urban area to the peace and quiet of this golf course.
Southern Sicily
Sicily boasts many golf courses, though the best of these are located in southern Sicily. The best of these is Donnafugata Golf Resort and this offers both the course and accommodation. Players can enjoy their round of golf in the spectacular surroundings, which include hills, mountains, forests and the sea. While you are in this area you can also visit the cultural towns of Modica, Ragusa, and Noto.
Conero Regional Park
Located in the beautiful ancient town of Sirolo is the Conero Golf Club. It sits on the Riviera del Conero and boasts stunning sea views. Other than enjoying your time on the golf course, you are ideally situated to enjoy the rest of this protected area.
