Il Volo or “The Flight”, is an operatic pop group which consists of three Italian singers. They formed a trio when competing in the Italian music show called Ti lascio una canzone which means “I’ll leave you with a song.” The trio includes Gianluca Ginoble who is a baritone, Piero Barone who is a tenor, and Ignazio Boschetto who is also a tenor. Each of the three members was born in a different region of Italy. Gianluca Ginoble was born in Roseto Degli Abruzzi, Piero Barone was born in Naro, Sicily, and Ignazio Boschetto was born in Bologna, Italy.

They are currently ages 22, 23, and 24 but they began their singing careers at much younger ages in 2009 when they were only  14, 15, and 16. Roberto Cenci, who produced Ti lascio una canzone intended to combine each singer’s talent and therefore unified the three individuals by forming a trio.  He planned to make this trio similar to the opera group “The Three Tenors” which consisted of the legendary Luciano Pavarotti, who all Italians are familiar with, Plácido Domingo, and  José Carreras.

Their album “Il Volo” was released in Italy on November 30, 2010, and was later released in the United States on May 17, 2011. It was recorded in 2010 in London at Abbey Road Studios. This album reached number 6 on the Billboard charts and was certified Platinum. It includes many popular songs such as “Il mondo”, and “Un amore così grande”.  “‘O Sole Mio” is featured on it as well, and it is astonishing that such young aged men possess such breathtaking voices. Il Volo was inspired by The Three Tenors and believed that music similar to theirs should live on and impact future generations, and it has indeed.
