For those that missed the Golden Globes this past Sunday, Green Book, directed by Peter Farrelly won multiple awards for Best Screenplay, Best Comedy and Best Supporting Actor. This film is based on true story and surrounds an Italian-American bouncer and an African-American pianist during the 1960’s. Green Book breaks boundaries as it tells the story of two unlikely friends that take a journey across the south during an especially trying time.
Tony, the Italian-American bouncer, from the Bronx is hired to chauffeur Don Shirley, a black pianist, through the south using the Green Book. It served as a guide for safe places to stay at and eat for African-American travelers in the 60’s to ensure that Shirley arrived to each gig on time.
The two develop an unbreakable bond and friendship as they learn about each other’s lives and hardships while on the road. Green Book is predicted to be nominated in this year’s 91st Academy Awards. Below is the trailer for the film, which can still be seen in theatres
