  • Luciano Pavarotti

Luciano Pavarotti was born in Modena on October 12, 1935 and died in his city of birth on September 6, 2007. He was one of the most successful tenors of all time. He often performed as one of the three tenors with Plácido Domingo and José Carreras. He is particularly famous for his final performance when he sung ‘Nessun Dorma’ at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin.

Andrea Bocelli was born in Lajatico on September 22, 1958. He is a tenor singer and a talented songwriter. He has also made the crossover into popular music. It is well-known that Bocelli is blind as he lost his eyesight following a football accident at the age of 12.

Enrico Caruso was one of the most successful opera singers of the early 20th century. He was born in Naples on February 25, 1873. He performed in many of the top opera houses in both Europe and the Americas. His performances ranged from the lyric to the dramatic and were in either Italian or French.

Cecilia Bartoli was born in Rome on June 4, 1966. She is a coloratura mezzo-soprano opera singer. Her most famous work is her interpretations of the music of Rossini and Mozart. She also sings classical and Baroque music. She is married to Oliver Widmer who is a Swiss baritone singer.

Renata Tebaldi was born in Pesaro on February 1, 1922. She is a Lirico-spinto soprano who was particularly popular in the post-war period. Her performances focused on lyric and dramatic repertoires. Tebakldi died on December 19, 2004.

  • Beniamino Gigli

Beniamino Gigli was born on March 20, 1890. He was renowned for his vocal technique and was one of the most famous tenors of his generation. He performed in many movies, including ‘Ave Maria’, ‘Night Taxi’, and ‘Forget Me Not’. He died on November 30, 1957, and is buried at Recanati Cemetery in Rome.
