Some of the most stunning and notable buildings in the United States are designed by Italian-American architects. Here are some of the best and most famous architects and their work.
Pietro Belluschi
Belluschi was born in Ancona, Italy. He completed his degree in civil engineering in Rome and then moved to the United States. When completed his studies at Cornell, he worked in Portland, Oregon, as a draftsman. He built his career and became known as one of the best architects in the United States. In addition to working as the dean of the MIT School of Architecture, he designed over 1,000 American buildings. Two of his most famous structures are the Pan Am Building and the Equitable Building (pictured).
Mario Ciampi
Much of modern day San Francisco is attributed to Mario Ciampi. He was born in San Francisco and studied architecture at Harvard University and then continued his studies in École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1945, he founded his own company, M.J.C. and Associates, His work is diverse and includes schools, churches and highways. One of his most famous works is the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, formerly known as the University of Berkeley Art Museum (pictured).
Romaldo Giurgola
Giurgola is not just an architect; he is also a professor and an author. Born in Rome, Romaldo Giurgola studied architecture at La Sapienza University. One of his first commissions, when he qualified, was The Wright Brothers National Memorial Visitor Center (pictured). This established his professional reputation in the United States. Other designs of Giurgola include Columbus East High School in Philadelphia and the Lang Music Building at Swarthmore College.
Vito Hannibal Acconci
Although he was originally a poet, Acconci built a career in many different aspects of architecture. These included working as a conventional architect, a landscape architect
