To catch a glimpse of true Italy rather than Italy presented to visitors in the tourist destinations, you should visit some of the towns and villages that surround Bari. Ostuni (pictured) is a nearby Baroque hill town that is worth a visit and many of the surrounding villages are the most unspoiled and thinly populated in Italy.

5. Shop at Bari Market

During your stay in Bari, you should try some of the traditional local dishes rather than simply visiting restaurants that cater to tourists. As this is a port city, seafood is a specialty. Horsemeat in tomato sauce is also a traditional dish, but this is not to the taste of everyone. There are also many excellent pizzerias in this city.
