1. Take a Trip in a Gondola

One of the features that Venice is most famous for are the canals. A trip on a gondola is not only a great way to explore the canals of Venice, it is also a fantastic way to view the sights of the city from a different perspective. This is often seen as a romantic activity, so it is perfect for those traveling as a couple.

2. Visit Piazza San Marco

Piazza San Marco is the main square in Venice. A trip here is the ideal way to see all the major attractions at the same time. It is a particularly interesting place to visit for those who love history, culture and architecture.

3. Eat Local Venetian Cuisine

To get the full experience of Venice, avoid bars and restaurants aimed at tourists and choose local eateries that serve traditional Venetian cuisine. Take the opportunity to sample some seafood you have never tried before as these are a true specialty of Venice.

4. Soak Up the Artwork

Many masters of art come from this part of Italy and there work is on display throughout the city. Visit famous monuments to see spectacular ceiling paintings and the local art galleries to view some of the most acclaimed artworks in the world.

5. Visit the Campanile

The campanile is a beautiful and historic landmark in Venice. However, there is a further reason to visit this monument. As it is the tallest structure in Venice, a climb to the top will give you spectacular, panoramic views across the city. It is the perfect photographic opportunity as a memento of your trip.

6. Take a Wine Tour

Some of the finest wine in the world is produced in the area surrounding Venice. During your stay, you should take a trip out of the city to some of the local vineyards for a tour. You will have the chance to sample the produce and buy some to enjoy later at your leisure.

7. Cool Down with Gelato

Things can get hot and sticky in Venice during the summer months. The perfect way to cool down is to try one of the many flavors of gelato available from street vendors.

8. Ride the Water Bus Down Grande Canal

Even if you have already taken a trip down the canals on a gondola, you should still ride the water bus on the Grande Canal. This is an entirely different experience. The Grande Canal was once the main thoroughfare through Venice, so it holds a lot of historical significance.

9. Musical Experiences

To enjoy a cultural experience while you are in Venice, you should try to watch an opera or listen to an orchestra play. La Fenice or Teatro Malibran are two of the best places to enjoy a musical experience.

10. Take Part in the Carnival

If you are fortunate enough to be in Venice in mid-February, then watching the carnival is an absolute must. Better still, get involved yourself. The locals all wear masks and there is lots of music fun and festivities. If you are not there at this time of the year, it doesn’t mean you have missed out on all the fun. There are many smaller carnivals that take place locally throughout the year.
