Being Italian can come with different traditions, family values, and oddities than most people are used to seeing. Because of this, some of your friends may get confused by what they see. Here are some struggles of being the only Italian in your friend group!

1. You get told to quiet down

Italian friends and family tend to talk at a bit of a higher volume than most (many would consider it as yelling…), it wouldn’t be surprised for one of your friends to tell you that you are speaking too loud.

2. Your friends don’t understand your relationship with your cousins

It’s not surprising for close Italian friends to call each other by the names of “Cousins,” “Uncles,” and “Aunts” even though you may not be related. Even though you aren’t blood, it is as if you are family. As for the cousins who do have the same blood, they never leave your side.

3. Your friends get jealous of your skin tone

It’s not uncommon during the summer to step outside for 5 minutes and come back tan. For most people, this takes a month or two.

4. You cringe when you watch them make pasta

After eating homemade Nonna’s Italian macaroni and sugo, it’s hard to sit by and watch your friends use sauce out of a jar and throw it on pasta that isn’t “Al Dante”

5. Your friends are amazed by the amount of leftovers in your fridge

There is not too many times where the fridge isn’t filled with 7 different types of pasta and Italian meats. Uncommon to most.

6. They don’t understand the corno

They often ask, “Why is there a pepper hanging from your keys?”

…Only Italians understand..
