While you may want to spend the majority of your time absorbing the history and culture of Italy, you will probably want to visit some fun attractions too, especially if you are on a family vacation. There are some fantastic theme parks and water parks in this country so you will find fun activities to enjoy within easy traveling distance no matter where you are staying in Italy.

1. Gardaland- Lake Garda

Gardaland is listed in the top ten theme parks in Europe. So, if you are staying anywhere within easy reach of this theme park, it is well worth a visit. Although it has some of the best rollercoasters in the world, this attraction boasts experiences beyond what you would typically expect in a theme park. For example, one of the best-themed attractions at this park is Ramses II: Risveglio. This is a ride in the dark in a recreation of an Egyptian tomb. You have the chance to fight off the undead with a laser gun.

2. Mirabilandia- Lido di Savio, Romagna

Another of Europe’s best theme parks is Mirabilandia. This combines both land-based attractions and a water park covering 25-acres. There is so much to do there that you can easily spend two days at the park if you can commit this amount of time in your vacation. Two of the most popular rides are iSpeed and Katun. The former reaches speeds of 60 miles per hour, while the latter suspends riders below the track.

3. Movieland Park- Lake Garda

Although it is not quite on the scale of attractions such as Universal Studios, Movieland in Lake Garda is still well worth a visit. It has some quirky attractions and the tour on a tram behind the scenes is a highlight. While you are visiting Movieland Park, you might also like to pop next door to the Aqua Studios water park.

4. Rainbow Magicland- Valmotone, Rome

This is one of the newest theme parks in Europe as it was only built in 2011. Covering a site of 148 acres, this attraction cost approximately €300 million to create. This is a park that aims to meet all the needs of the family. There are meet and greets with cute characters for toddlers, pleasant rides for younger children and adrenalin-inducing rollercoasters for teens and adults.

5. II Cavallino Matto- Tuscany

This is a smaller theme park than some of the other options, but it is the perfect place for the family who have got bored of scenic and cultural excursions during their vacation. There is a great mix of fun rides and you can also enjoy live performances. While most of the rides are designed for the whole family to enjoy, there are four exciting rollercoasters and several other rides aimed at thrill-seekers.

These are just some of the top theme parks in Italy. If you are planning a vacation in this country, it is worth checking what is available in your area as there are many more fun attractions that you can enjoy during your stay.
