Udine is a city and commune in north-eastern Italy that lies within the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. This ancient city has many interesting influences from past rulers and bordering countries. Due to its rich history, this is an interesting city to visit with plenty of things to see and do during your stay. Here are some of the top places to visit while you are in Udine.

1. Udine Cathedral

Located on Piazza del Duomo, this 13th-century cathedral is the main religious structure in Udine. Some of the external features include a large carved doorway, archways, and rose windows. The interior boasts stunning frescoes, beautiful paintings, and ornate sculptures.

2. Udine Castle

The construction of the castle began in 1517 but took 50 years to complete. It contains several museums and an art gallery. Other than to see this wonderful historic structure, people visit this castle so they can enjoy the spectacular views of the city and the surrounding mountains.

3. Piazza Liberta

This delightful square is the oldest in Udine and lies close to the castle. Some of the most significant buildings in Udine lie within this square. It also features beautiful statues, monuments, and fountains.

4. Loggia del Lionello

This Venetian Gothic-style structure is considered one of the most important buildings in Udine. It is particularly of interest to anyone who loves architecture as it is one of the finest examples of a building in this style in Italy. The first level features intricate archways while the second level is constructed from white and pink marble.

5. Giardin Grande

The Giardin Grande is a wonderful space to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and simply relax. It is a circular garden that is framed by trees and contains six manicured lawns divided by six symmetrical paths. It is surrounded by wonderful architecture and many cafes, restaurants, and bars.

6. Parco del Cormor

Parco del Cormor is located next to the Friuli Stadium. There is a large expanse of wooded area that is home to many wildlife. There are also open areas, pathways, fountains, and water features. The park has a café within the grounds to enjoy some refreshments during your visit.

A stay in Udine is not complete without sampling some of the delicious cuisines of the region. One of the best restaurants to try during your stay is La Nicchia Restaurant. The menu includes a wide range of pasta dishes along with examples of traditional local cuisine. The service is attentive and the atmosphere is relaxing and these factors combined with the excellent food create a memorable experience.

8. Liberty Bar

The Liberty Bar is one of the most famous night-time venues in Udine and it is an excellent place to enjoy a cocktail or to sample fine wines. This American themed bar has a great atmosphere and often has live music played either at the grand piano or by a jazz band.

9. Visit the Beach

It is less than an hour to the beach at Lignano Sabbiadoro. There are approximately seven kilometers of golden coastline between this coastal town and the Punta Faro Marina. It is perfect for relaxing or enjoying recreational activities. There is also an aqua park and a theme park nearby.
