The 5 Best Wild Swimming Spots in Italy

If you’re looking for a place to cool off, but the beach isn’t really your style, check out these 5 Italian swimming spots.

Pozze Smeraldine

Pozze Smeraldine

The Dolomites mountain range is a vast expanse of beauty, so it’s no surprise one of the most beautiful waterways in Italy would be located there. Known for the brilliant emerald-colored waters and lush surroundings, Pozze Smeraldine is a great place to gather with family and enjoy a beautiful summer day. There are waterfalls, deep pools for diving and shallow areas for small children. Pozze Smeraldine has something for everyone.

Cascata Capelli di Venere

The hair of Venus

Known as the Hair of Venus, this waterfall is one of Italy’s best-kept secrets. It gets its name from the mossy plants, called capelvenere, that cover the surrounding rock faces. You can find this spot in the Campania region of Southern Italy. There is an entry fee for the falls, but once inside, you will have access to the water, trails, and caves.

Laghetti di Cava Grande

The Little Lakes

Located about 7 miles outside of Avola in Sicily, the Cassibile river runs through the Cavagrande Natural Preserve. This place is home to one of Europe’s biggest canyons, which is where you will find the Laghetti di Cava Grande. The Laghetti, or little lakes, is located at the bottom of the canyon and requires some hiking to access.

Cascata del Sasso

Cascata Sasso

This 49-foot waterfall is located near the town of Sant’Angelo in Vado in the Marche region of Italy. There are various trails to the waterfall, and the journey should only take you about 30 minutes. This spot is a great little oasis for people to come and enjoy the natural vegetation and native wildlife.

Terme de Petriolo

Petriolo Hot Springs

If you’re looking for someplace a little warmer look to Terme de Petriolo in Tuscany. These hot springs are 43 degrees Celsius, or 109 degrees Fahrenheit, all year round. There is a sulfur smell to contend with, but considering the healing properties these springs are supposed to have I would say it’s a fair trade-off.
