Italy Makes World’s Biggest (1,319 Lb) Block of Pecorino Cheese

Italy has officially made the Guiness Book of World Records for "largest block of cheese".

The block of cheese weighs 598.5 kilograms (1,319 Lbs) and was made with  4,500 liters (1188 gallons) of sheep’s milk.

This block of cheese beat the 2010 world record registered at Ascoli Piceno, in Le Marche region. The cheese block in Le Marche weighed 534.7 kg (1178 Lbs).

According to Italian news agency ANSA, the block of cheese was produced in Loculi, in the Nuoro province on the island of Sardinia.

The block was cut up into 500 g (1 Lb) portions which have been sold for €5 each.
