Her son, Edoardo Ponti, is a director and has featured his mother in the Italian movie La vita davanti (The Life Ahead). The movie features Sophia as Madame Rose, an individual who survived the Holocaust in real life and became friends with a 12-year-old Senegalese boy. The 86-year-old actress filmed the movie in Italy and gave it her all. She worked up to 10 hours at a time on set! Nevertheless, what better director to have than your son? Sophia expressed her feelings about her son directing the movie to Variety. She stated, “He knows me so well. He knows every inch of my face, my heart, my soul. He will only move on to the next shot when I hit my deepest truth.”
