Italian Samantha Cristoforetti – First European Woman to Command International Space Station

In 2022, Italian astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti will become the first European woman in the world to command the ISS!

Italian astronaut Samatha Cristoforetti is making history in numerous ways! She will soon be the third female ISS commander on the planet after two Americans Sunita Williams and Shannon Walker.

Samantha Cristoforetti is Italy’s very first woman to enter space and according to the European Space Agency, Samantha will take control during Expedition 68.

Until June of 2017, she held the record for the longest single space flight by a woman!

Furthermore, Samantha Cristoforetti holds the record for the longest uninterrupted spaceflight by a European astronaut. Astonishingly, Samantha spent 200 days onboard the International Space Station! Hear about her journey below!
