At the end of summer/beginning of fall, many Italians roast and can peppers to enjoy for the rest of the year!

2. Make Homemade Vino

This is the highlight of the year for Italians! Families gather around and make homemade wine in bulk that can be enjoyed for years. Italian families pass down their wine-making techniques for generations! And you better believe that even the 4-year-olds start learning!

3. Hunt for wild mushrooms

Do you ever bring up “mushroom hunting” to your American friend, and they look at you like you’re crazy? Don’t worry; it happens to the best of us.  Italians have “living off the land” in their blood. During the fall, many Italians still go mushroom hunting. They use the mushrooms to make homemade giardiniera and in dishes such as risotto.

4. Make polenta, risotto, and minestrone

These are a few of the many unbelievable dishes Italians make in the fall! Smelling homemade polenta and stew immediately reveals that it is fall!

5. Celebrate Italian Heritage Month

October is National Italian-American Heritage Month. During this time, Italians celebrate their families’ culture and traditions. They also honor the many sacrifices their ancestors made to bring them where they are today!
