
The much anticipated 2023 World Baseball Classic officially commenced on Wednesday with a thrilling start. Today, Team Italy, clinched a remarkable victory in their tournament opener against Cuba after a hard fought 6-3 win in extra innings. The game remained scoreless until the sixth inning. An inning later, infielder Miles Mastrobuoni, made it 2-0 on a double that scored infielder Nicky Lopez. Cuba fought back, but hits by John Valente, Dominic Fletcher and Lopez would give Italy a 6-2 lead heading into the bottom of the 10th. Matt Harvey received three scoreless innings for Italy and an additional scoreless inning from Andre Pallante that also lead Italy to their season opening victory.
