Former Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi, Dies at 86

The longest-serving prime minister in post-war Italy passed away this Monday.

Silvio Berlusconi was a media tycoon who transformed Italian television. He did this by utilizing previously owned channels and he was so successful that he became a billionaire.

Silvio was elected the Italian Prime Minister in 1994 and was the longest-serving Prime Minister in post-war Italy. He led four governments until 2011

He passed away at San Raffaele hospital in Milan this past Monday (June 12th, 2023). He was 86. 

His death was confirmed in a statement by current Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. No cause of death was given, but he was hospitalized last week as part of his treatment for chronic leukemia.
