The song was originally called ‘Tu Vuò Fa L’Americano’ and was co-written and performed by an Italian singer and musician called Renato Carosone. He was one of the most prominent performers on the Italian music scene during the latter half of the 20th-century. You can listen to his 1956 version of the song here:

In 2010, the song was recorded by Yolande Be Cool and DCUP and they renamed the song ‘We No Speak Americano’. Their track hit the top of the charts in several countries. You can listen to this hit version of the song here:

A fun version of this song has been recorded by The Chipettes. This is the chipmunk girl group that appears in the 2011 live-action/ computer animated musical family comedy ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked’.
