Dean Martin’s career spanned six decades and he was well-known for his on-stage charisma. He was one of the most popular Italian-American entertainers of the 20th century. He released a string of successful hits at various points in his career. Just a few of his hit singles include ‘Volare’, ‘Ain’t That a Kick in the Head’, ‘That’s Amore’, and Everybody Loves Somebody’. Another of his big hits was ‘The Door Is Still Open to My Heart’.
Originally, ‘The Door Is Still Open to My Heart’ was performed in 1955 by ‘The Cardinals’ who were an R&B vocal group based in Baltimore. The song was written by Chuck Willis. Dean Martin did not release his version until 1964 and Martin’s was the most successful version of this song. It peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent 11 weeks on the charts.
