With a career that spans eight decades, Tony Bennett is one of the most successful and long-standing Italian-American performers of all-time. He has a string of hit records that remain popular to this day. One of his best and most well-known songs is ‘Rags to Riches’.
‘Rags to Riches’ was written by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross. Although there have been many covers of this song, one of the most popular versions is the one by Tony Bennett. When Bennett recorded this song, he was backed by Percy Faith and his orchestra. The song was released in 1953 and instantly became a huge hit. It became a gold record and was at number one on the Billboard chart for eight consecutive weeks. The music for the song is based on a Latin American melody.
Tony Bennett’s version of the song was also used at the beginning of the film ‘Goodfellas’. This 1990 film was directed by Martin Scorsese and starred Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci, and Lorraine Bracco.
