  • A Room with a View

A room with a view is a British romance drama set in both England and Italy. It is produced by Ismail Merchant and directed by James Ivory. This love story is set in the repressed culture of the Edwardian era. Stars include Dame Judi Dench, Helena Bonham-Carter and Daniel Day-Lewis.

  • The Name of the Rose

This 1986 movie was directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud and is based on the book by Umberto Eco. It is a period mystery drama set in the Medieval era and stars Sean Connery and Christian Slater. Rocca Calascio in Abruzzio was one of the shooting locations for this movie.

  • The Italian Job

There are two versions of this heist movie and both were predominantly in Italy. The original film, released in 1969 starred Michael Caine. The 2003 version was an American remake that used the same storyline and starred Jason Statham, Mark Wahlberg, Edward Nortons and Charlize Theron, amongst others.

  • The Red Violin

The Red Violin is a 1998 Canadian drama about a mysterious violin and its owners. The story spans five countries, including Italy, and four centuries. The film stars Samuel L. Jackson, Greta Scacchi, and Sandra Ooh.

  • Caravaggio

Starring Tilda Swinton, Robbie Coltrane and Sean Bean, this British film tells the story of Michaelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, the Baroque painter. It was initially released in 1986 and was directed by Derek Jarman.

This 1994 American romantic comedy stars Robert Downey, Jr., Marisa Tomei, and Bonnie Hunt. The movie was produced by Norman Jewison. Some of the Italian locations used were Rome, Venice, Positano in Salerno and Monterrigioni in Siena, Tuscany.

  • Casino Royale

Casino Royale was the first of the James Bond movies to star Daniel Craig and is the twenty-first film in the series. It was released in 2006 and was directed by Martin Campbell. The film also features Eva Green and Alessandra Ambrosia.

  • The Bourne Identity

Several scenes in The Bourne Identity are filmed in Rome. This spy movie was released in 2002 and is an adaptation of a Robert Ludlum novel with the same name. Just some of the well-known actors in this movie include Matt Damon, Clive Owen, and Julia Stiles.
