Traditional Spaghetti For St. Josephs Day (Pasta with Buttered Breadcrumbs)

The type of Speghetti to have on St. Josephs Day is called Spaghetti di San Giuseppe. You may also eat this on Christmas Eve as well. It is made with ingredients such as olive oil, walnuts, toasted breadcrumbs, parsley, and golden raisins. 

The history about this traditional spaghetti is that very well known because the recipe originated from St.Joseph himself. As you know St.Joseph was a carpenter. He was not very wealthy. The breadcrumbs represent St. Joseph. Mainly because he is a carpenter. Back then this type of dish was considered a poor mans dish. 

Ingredients

  • 1 pound spaghetti
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 5 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 ½ cups panko breadcrumbs
  • 4 anchovy fillets
  • 5 cloves garlic
  • 1 cup sweet onion chopped
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes or season to taste
  • 1 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 1 ½ cups grape tomatoes halved
