The Sicilian Waterslide That Drops You into the Sea

If you're looking for the tallest waterslide in Europe, visit Sicily.

As a child, I loved waterslides. The bigger the better, in my opinion. I loved the twists and turns, and the explosion of water as your body is expelled into the pool. I luckily grew up in an area where we had a lot of waterparks at our disposal. My fascination with waterslides has never diminished over the years, so when I saw this slide, I knew I had to book my vacation as soon as I could.

Located in  Terrasini, Sicily, this four-story waterslide will drop you right into the Tyrrhenian Sea. According to one article, it is actually the tallest waterslide in Europe. Each story opens onto another pool until you reach the final set of slides where you plunge directly into the open water. You can then climb the stairs carved into the cliffside to start your adventure again.

There are 11 slides total, and they are typically open from 9am to 12:30pm and 4pm to 6pm. Depending on the time you visit, specifically in the middle of the week, you may end up having the slides all to yourself.

The waterslide is a part of the Citta Del Mare Hotel, one of Sicily’s largest resorts. You will have to book a room at the hotel to enjoy these seaside slides. The hotel also has an Olympic size swimming pool, restaurant, and a buffet with wine on tap.

There are over 800 rooms to choose from, with prices starting at €80 per night. Keep in mind, it is located about 40 minutes outside of Palermo, so if you’re looking to venture outside of the hotel, you’ll need to plan ahead.

  1. I visited this amazing pool when I was about 14 years old. I am now 65 and I remember the day and that visit like it was yesterday. It was an absolutely amazing slide/pool combination. I remember sliding into the sea, swimming to the steps and climbing back to the top. If you have a chance to visit this spot, you must GO! You won’t forget the adventure.
