This week’s highlighted match sees two of Italy’s iconic clubs face off. Roma and Inter Milan. This match can bolster Inter’s chances of challenging Juventus for the Scudetto or it could help Roma’s chances of securing a spot in next season’s Europa League. A lot is on the line in this week’s match of the week.
To start things off Roma looked very strong with a few near scoring chances, but it was Inter’s Stefan De Vrij who started the scoring in the 14th minute with a flying header from a perfectly placed corner kick from Alexis Sanchez to make it 1-0. The next bit of action came when Nicola Barella received a yellow card in the 22nd minute for a reckless challenge right outside his own box against Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Lastly right before the end of the 1st half Leonardo Spinazzola put a great shot on goal from a Roma counterattack and it ricocheted off of De Vrij’s foot into his own net. It’s worth noting a controversial no call on a potential foul before the counterattack was reviewed and deemed not a foul by the official. Overall a very fast paced, exciting 1st half for both sides.
The 2nd half was definitely filled with as much excitement as the previous half. The first major play that occurred was in the 56th minute when the ball was taking multiple bounces off of various players in the box and it ended up at Mkhitaryan’s feet for an easy finish. A lot of back and forth happened between the two teams with a handful of legitimate scoring chances taking place throughout the half. A pivotal moment came in the 87th minute when Romulu Lukaku was awarded a penalty which he decisively finished a minute later to make it 2-2. In the end it was a 2-2 draw in what was a truly exciting match from two quite formidable clubs.
Looking forward to another great week of football coming up. Continue to stay safe and enjoy some calcio!
